Introduction
The Greenock Golf Club was founded in 1890 and is located in a commanding position high above the town. In 1924 that busiest
of all Golf Course Architects, former open champion James Braid was invited to advise on reconstruction.
Leased farmlands were duly purchased and an eighteen and a nine hole course were built, being completed in 1927. The course
is moorland with trees defining many of the fairways and it is to no exaggeration to say the views over the Clyde Estuary to
the Argyll hills beyond are simply spectacular.
The club has played host to several professional and amateur county championships over the years, while some of the worthy
exponents of the game have graced its fairways ; JH Taylor, Harry Vardon, Roberto de Vicenzo and Sam Torrance have all
exhibited their skills to the members.
Set in the heart of Renfrewshire, Greenock golf club is only 25 minutes from Glasgow International Airport and is easily
accessible from all regions. Boasting 27 holes of James Braid design, both courses are of a parkland/moorland layout and
offer golfers of all abilities a fair test of golf whilst you enjoy the magnificent views over the River Clyde and Dunoon. |

As Captain
of Greenock Golf Club it gives me great pleasure in
inviting friends old and new to the club and our 27
hole layout. Both our 9 and 18 hole courses are of
James Braid design, the heathland / moorland layout
was established over a 100 years ago.
Golf at Greenock is a pleasure times two. Choose to
play from our 9 or 18 hole courses, each one carefully
maintained and deeply satisfying in its own special
way. The elevated site of the clubhouse provides magnificient
views across the Firth of Clyde and the Argyllshire
Hills beyond.
Our aim is to provide members and visitors with a
friendly greeting, relaxed atmosphere, highest standards
of service and real value for money is the hallmark
of the Club.
